JUNIOR KING & QUEEN TRAPPER RULES & REGULATIONS

1.        All contestants must be between the ages of 12 & 17, proof of age will be required in some cases.

2.        All contestants must register at Festival Headquarters by Thursday 6:00 p.m. of Festival week.

3.        Payment of a $10.00 entry fee is required at time of registration.

4.        Participants in the competition must compete in a minimum of seven (7) individual events in order to qualify for points.

5.        The contestant with the highest total points, and who has complied with all regulations, will be awarded the title of Jr. King/Jr. Queen Trapper.

6.        In the event of a tie, the title will be awarded to the contestant with the most first places.

7.        The director of the event has the right to refuse entry to anyone.

8.         The decision of the director is final.

9.         Any contestant found cheating or contravening the Rules & Regulations of any event will be disqualified from the contest and forfeit the entry fee.

10.      Contestants participate at their own risk and must sign the consent form and have their parent/guardian present to consent to same.

11.      Contestants must supply their own snowshoes if they wish to compete in the snowshoe race.  Contestants must also supply their own axe if they wish to compete in the tea boiling and bannock baking.

12.     Numbers will be drawn for the order of the competition.

13.     Any competitor using foul language, interfering with the judging or using unsportsmanlike  conduct will be suspended from the competition at the discretion of the NMTF Junior King/Queen Trapper director.  Coaching from non-competitors will also not be allowed.

EVENT RULES

1.        Moose Calling: This event is held at the Preliminaries 7:00 February 14th.  This is a judged event.  Point Value: 3-2-1

2.        Goose Calling: This event is held at the Preliminaries 7:00 February 14th.  This is a judged event.  Point Value: 3-2-1

3.        Pole Climbing: (Boys Only) This is a timed event.  The contestant who has the best time, climbs the pole in the shortest time, touches the top and yells, will be declared the winner. Point Value: 3-2-1

4.        Log Sawing:  The log is placed on a sawhorse and one piece is cut off at the end.  There may not be enough saws and sawhorses to run all at once, so depending on the number of contestants, they may be timed two or three at a time.  The one with the lowest time wins. Point Value: 3-2-1

5.        Log Balance:  (Girls Only)  Two contestants get on a log and roll it, trying to dislodge the other contestant.  There is a process of elimination to determine the winner. Point Value: 3-2-1

6.        Leg Wrestling:  Numbers are drawn by the contestants.  Odd numbers wrestle odd and even numbers wrestle even.  Odd man out gets a bye.  Straight elimination. Point Value: 3-2-1

7.        Log Throw:  The large end of the log is the throwing end.  The measurement for this contest will be from the center of the starting log to the resting place of the throwing end, no matter how it gets there.  Each contestant gets two throws. Point Value: 3-2-1

8.        Trap Setting:  The winner of this event will have to set traps provided to them in the shortest time.  All the contestants will be given the opportunity to set all traps once before the contest begins.  Point Value: 3-2-1

9.        Pack Race:  Each contestant will carry a 50 lb. bag of grain approximately 75 yards.  First one over the finish line wins.  boys are required to first pick up the bag.  For the girls, the bag is first placed on their shoulder.  Point Value: 3-2-1

10.     Nail Driving:  Hammers and 3-6 inch spikes for each of the boys and 1 inch spike for each of the girls.  Nails to be pounded flush into the blocks provided.  Fastest time wins but there will be a five second penalty for each nail which is bent over. Point Value: 3-2-1

11.     Tea Boiling:  Contestants are supplied with a limited amount of paper, matches and wood.  they must have their own axe.  They must prepare fire for lighting and fill their supplied cans with snow to the brim.  All contestants are timed, upon go, and the fire is started.  The first to get their snow melted and brought to a rolling boil shall be declared the winner and gets some tea to throw in.  Tea does not need to be drinkable.  Each contestant must have a stick to put the can on to hold it into the fire.  Point Value: 3-2-1

12.     Bannock Baking:  This is a judged event with a maximum time of 45 minutes allowed.  The lath will be numbered as the judges are not allowed to watch this event ( 3 judges).  The contestants are provided with lath, cardboard, flour, salt, baking powder, lard and water.  Timing starts when everybody has their product and the contestants cannot start until that time.  30 minutes will be allocated prior to the judging.  Point Value: 3-2-1

13.     Snowshoe Race:  This is a race where contestants must supply their own snowshoes.  The girls will run a race of approximately 1 mile.  The boys will run approximately 2 miles.  The race will take place on the Saskatchewan River.  Contestants are to meet at the Kinsmen Campground parking lot.  Point Value: 3-2-1
