Snow/Ice Sculptures

It takes snow, ice and a little bit of work and a little bit of imagination to have a great deal of fun.  So don’t miss this community effort to add to the exciting festive atmosphere of our northern winter festival.  So gather all the talent, imagination, and energy you can possibly muster and put it all together into one fantastic work of snow and ice.  Don’t wait too long….you need to register your entry by Thursday 6:00 pm at Festival Headquarters.  Once that deadline passes, our judges will be scouring the Community for those great works of fun.  But we won’t know who you are unless you register.  There are residential and commercial categories.  Trophies for first and second, prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each category, $75, $50 and $25.  Sponsored by the Scotia Bank.

Cordwood Bonspiel

The cordwood Bonspiel is a Trappers’ Festival event opened to children in Elementary and middle years school.  Co-ed teams of four curlers compete on sheets of ice drawn on the skating surface of the Roy H. Johnston Arena.  Instead of using curling stones, the curlers use ‘rocks’ made out of round chunks of wood with a bent  piece of metal for a handle.  The elementary curlers curl four ends with the middle year students curling six ends.  The curling is exciting with skips throwing great ‘take outs’, wonderful deliveries and games ending with skips throwing ‘skip rocks’ to determine the winners.  Prize and certificates are given to all of the winners.  But this is an event where everyone is a winner by participating.  Curling starts Friday at 9:00a m for Elementary curlers, and 10:30 am for the middle years curlers.  Sign up sheets are distributed to the schools in early February.  Thank you to The Town of Pas/Kelsey Rec. for supporting and promoting this event.
